Hero's Journey Archetypes

Every person experiences different situations in their life, which can be seen as a journey. A journey without an end, one that repeats throughout our lives, in which at each stage, we act as a hero. For example, imagine a problem arises: you become ill, or your relationship with your spouse is at risk, or something else happens. In the first few minutes, you might be unwilling to face the issue, but after a while, your optimism returns, and you begin to analyze the situation. Your next experience is one of helplessness and suffering, but eventually, you seek help and support from others. You organize your resources and create a plan to face the problem. While carrying out this plan, you also pay attention to the emotional support needed by both yourself and others.

You gather more information, release illusions and false hopes, and commit to new resolutions for change in order to find a solution. This means you respond to the crisis in a way that allows you to grow and become more than you were before. After you address the crisis, you reflect on whether you played a role in creating the problem and take steps to heal and improve that part of yourself, bringing about a new transformation to prevent such a problem from arising again. Or perhaps you simply heal that part of yourself that has been wounded due to circumstances over which you had no control. This process allows you to see what lesson you can learn from the situation. This learning frees you to return to enjoying life and trusting the flow of life.

The hero’s journey is an inner process a journey through which we live with its archetypes. It is a concept that defines our inner states in different circumstances of our lives. And this journey never ends…

If the Caregiver archetype is active within you, you believe that helping others is your duty and responsibility. Caregivers are generally compassionate and kind individuals who enjoy assisting others, but they are not always as kind to themselves. Because they feel a strong attachment and affection toward their children and loved ones, they may unconsciously keep these individuals dependent on them. The evolved Caregiver brings motivation and joy to the world with their love and purity. In contrast, the undeveloped Caregiver becomes caught in a dual, excessive dependency, using helping others as an excuse to avoid and deny their own personal problems. The Caregiver within you always creates the opportunity for true human dignity and honor.

On the other hand, they can also be someone who chooses new paths and experiences in their life. In today’s modern world, many fear the actions of the Destroyer, but many mythological stories speak of the new life that arises after death or failure. If we become friends with the Destroyer within us, the fear of losing what we have fades, and we can trust the unknown.

The Creator’s role could involve producing literary works, fine arts, music, or other forms of artistic expression. At the same time, they can be an entrepreneur, inventor, innovator, or generally someone who actively engages their imagination on a daily basis. If the Ruler archetype is active within you, you believe that you must have control. The Magician transcends ordinary, everyday awareness and employs different, deeper methods to accomplish tasks. Power and authority are often not in the hands of the Magician; they are often reclusive, providing insights and effective solutions to the Ruler. The Magician plays a role in helping others realize their potential and unveils the complex secrets behind the scenes that shape world events. The primary role of the Magician archetype is to attain and manifest heart’s desires by transforming and elevating thoughts, feelings, and attitudes.

Wise

If the Sage archetype is active within you, you believe that truth will lead you to the destination of freedom. The Lover and Magician archetypes represent our heart’s desires, while the Sage helps us let go of what we think we desire, so we can accept the truth as it is. I knew a Sage who had a motto: “Don’t fight the truth, because it always wins.” The main concern of the Sage is the value they place on truth. At the same time, they are aware that their personal interpretations filter and define what truth is. This, in turn, highlights the relativity of truth. The Sage’s primary motivation is to find the truth, or at least get closer to it, satisfying their intellectual curiosity and thirst. The energy of this archetype offers the opportunity to gain knowledge and freedom, which comes from understanding the truth.
